Howley man aims for place in Guinness World Records on his spacehopper – V Festival
A Freelance graphic designer is hoping to boing and bounce his way into the record books.
Dale Brooks, of Howley, is trying to break the Guinness world record for the most number of people bouncing on space hoppers at V Festival 2010
The promoters behind the annual festival, which takes place in August in Stafford and Chelmsford, got in touch with Dale after more than 600 people joined a Facebook group dedicated to the attempt.
SJM Concerts were so impressed they have promised a dedicated area on both sites for breaking the bouncing record on what is being dubbed Space Hopper Friday.
The 26-year-old said: “I was given a space hopper as a house warming gift and thought it would be great if everyone took them to V Festival which me and my friends already had tickets for.
“I did a bit of research and got in touch with Guiness and thought the V Festival crowds in the north and south sites could easily break it.”
According to Wikipedia, the current record is 2,518 people hopping simultaneously on space hoppers in Holland. With 80,000 people attending V Festival every year, Dale is keen to completely smash the record.
He said: “I think when I first suggested it and created the group my friends didn’t think I would get enough people to do it and they’ve been shocked as the numbers have grown.
“It’s taken over my life as I’m checking the group every two minutes but I’ve never broken a record before and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do.
“I’ve just been waiting for the right thing to come up.”
The graphic designer has opened a shop with record-attempt themed keyrings, t-shirts and stickers which he hopes will be used to customise hoppers and tents.
