Volunteers at Northstar Church assembled this 48-by-4-foot plate of nachos on Wednesday in an attempt to break a Guinness World Record and officially launch the church’s youth ministry called Arora.
The current Guinness record of 3,158 pounds of nachos was set in 2008 by Bandito’s Burrito Lounge in Richmond, Va.
Northstar Church Youth Pastor Chris Lindberg welcomed hundreds of teens who turned out for the free feast. “Tonight I’m thankful and glad to tell you we’ve built a nacho monstrosity that is 3,555.25 pounds right here in Frisco, Texas,” he told them.
Two dozen volunteers assembled the gigantic plate of nachos in an hour and 49 minutes. An hour of munching by hungry kids later that night barely put a dent in the massive mound.
Organizers are putting together the paperwork to submit to Guinness. It could be several months, though, before they hear whether they’ve officially set a new record.
